Cassava Pond, St. Catherine
The facility lies in North West St. Catherine, in the community of Cassava Pond. Cassava Pond is in close proximity to Ewarton.
Background and Purpose:
Cassava Pond is a farming community that was without a reliable supply of potable (drinkable) water. Residents either had to purchase trucked water or create their own rainwater catchment facility in order to have water for domestic use. These measures were found to be quite expensive for the residents and as a result, the Government of Jamaica made the decision to create the Cassava Pond Water supply. This project will supply potable (drinkable) water to the residents which will ease the financial burden on them to supply their own water.
Projected Outputs:
The outputs of the project will be:
- The laying of 50mm and 25mm diameter galvanized iron pipes, each 1650m.
- The laying of 50mm P.V.C pipes, 500m.
- The installation of pump sets and switch gear.
Operator of the System:
The National Water Commission is responsible for operating and maintaining the catchment facility.

The project is still on going and the current cost is $6.298 million
