Farkett Water Supply

Location/Communities Affected:

      Farkett, St. Catherine
              The facility lies in Northeast St. Catherine, in the community of Farkett. Farkett is
              in close proximity to Pear Tree Grove, Sports Park, Malgrave, Stapleton and Retreat.
Background and Purpose:
      Farkett lies in the north area of the parish of St. Catherine and is considered to be a farming community. The residents were without potable (drinkable) water and had to purchase water or create their own catchment facility for domestic use. As a result, the Government of Jamaica made the decision to create the Farkett Water Supply in order to ease the burden that the lack of potable water presented. The project will allow potable water to be provided to the residents via pipelines.
Projected Outputs:
       The output of the project was:
  •         The laying of 50mm and 25mm diameter galvanized iron pipes for 1,390 m.
Operator of the System:
      The St. Catherine Parish Council is responsible for operating and maintaining the water supply.
Status and Cost:
      The project was completed at a cost of $1.112 million.

      The project management team comprised of Mr. Alton Walker from Rural Water Supply and Mr. Larry Olakunle from the St. Catherine Parish Council.
