Giblatore Primary School Rainwater Harvesting Facility Upgrade

Location/Communities Affected:

Giblatore Primary School, Bogwalk, St. Catherine
The facility lies in North Central St. Catherine, in the Giblatore Primary School. The
Gilblatore Primary School is located in the community of Giblatore.
Background and Purpose:
Giblatore is a community that had benefitted from an extensive rainwater harvesting project where approximately 700 residential homes and churches were supplied with potable (drinkable) water. This supply came from the rainwater harvesting facilities under a programme sponsored by the Ministry of
Water, Land, Environment and Climate Change. However, the Giblatore Primary School was not one of the beneficiaries of this programme and their rainwater harvesting facility was in a state of disrepair. In order for the School to have remained operational, water for sanitation purposes was needed. Therefore, the Government of Jamaica made the decision to upgrade the Giblatore Primary School Rainwater Harvesting Facility. This facility eased the financial burden on the school as they were purchasing trucked water from the National Water Commission. This facility supplies 300 students and 6 teachers.
Projected Outputs:
The outputs of the project were:
  •          The repairing, waterproofing and painting of an existing 22,712.47 litres concrete tank.
  •          The construction, waterproofing and painting of a new 11,356.24 litres concrete tank
  •          The supplying and installation of approximately 60.96m of guttering.

The Ministry of Education is responsible for operating and maintaining the catchment facility.
