Rosewell Water Supply Project

Project Category:      General

 Project Description:

Location/Communities Affected: Palmeto Pen/Breadnut Bottom/Rosewell

(Located in the Eastern Section of the Parish of Clarendon)

 Background and Purpose:

The Rosewell Water Supply Project was developed to directly target the communities of Rosewell and Breadnut Bottom and by default, improve the operational efficiencies at the Palmeto Pen Pumping Station. For over three (3) decades these communities – primarily Rosewell – have suffered from a lack of access to potable water.

It is against this background, the Office of the Prime Minister, in August, 2016, mandated Rural Water Supply Limited (RWSL) and the National Water Commission (NWC) to develop a solution to rescue these communities from the challenges associated with the lack of access to potable water supply, which stifles their social development.

Rural Water Supply Limited (RWSL) in collaboration with the National Water Commission (NWC), undertook the necessary investigations of the areas, including the water supply availability, and determined that there was enough water available for production at the Palmeto Pen Pumping Station to satisfy the needs of the communities to be served. It was also determined that the existing 75mm diameter pipeline in Breadnut Bottom needed to be upgraded to a 150mm diameter, to allow adequate water flow to the residents who were inadequately served by the existing system. The upgrading of the existing pipeline together with new pipelines in Rosewell (mainly Robert Pond Road, Oaks Pen Road, and Queen Street) will allow residents in approximately 300 households access to piped water in their homes for the first time.

 Projected Outputs:

The outputs of the project were:

Improved potable water service to over 1,000 residents living in approximately 300 house-holds, two schools, and several business establishments in Rosewell and Breadnut Bottom in Clarendon.

·         Installation of over one hundred and fifty (150) new service connections

·         Upgrading of bathroom facilities to include the installation of eight (8) new low-level toilet suites and a water fountain at the Rosewell Primary School
